Pathology of Alopecia Arreata

  • Affected in grwtth phase. Cesation of anagen

Treatment of Alopecia Areata patches

  • Usually full remission in 80-% of cases
  • C3 TCS bd 12 weeks
  • Omntralesional stroids = Tramcinolone 10mg/mL
  • Support groups
  • Wigs
  • Camouflage
  • Counselling
  • Dirthnaol 0.5% ointmnent -> 2% once dailyi
  • Topical minoxidul 5%

Treatment of widespread aplopacia

  • Support group
  • counselling
  • Cosmetic aids
  • PUVA phototherapy
  • Systemic steroids if active and progressive
    •  – Pred 0.75mg/kg daily 3 weeks
  • Topical immunotherapy

Normal recovery

  • 33% recover in 6 months
  • 50% will recover in a year
  • 86% relapse
