Betty is a 50 year old who presents with sudden hair loss, the hair shave white bulbs on the end, it hs been 3 months since the passing of her husband unexpectedly.

 

What is the diagnosis?

  • Telogen Effluium

Features of History in Telogen Effluvium

  • Stressful event -> delay -> increased shedding in telogen
  • Triad = stressful event, 2 month delay, white bulbs (on end of hairs)

Hair Cycle

  • Anagen
  • Catagen
  • Telogen

Causes of Telogen Effluvium

  • Severe stress
  • Childbirth
  • High fever
  • Weight loss
  • Trauma
  • COCP cessation

Prognosis of Telogen Effluvium

  • Recovery in 6 months
